Carved and painted lime
300mm(w) x 350mm(h) x 180mm(d)
This was one of 21 candleholders which I carved for my daughter’s wedding.
The lady in the bath has had an interesting life told in four tattoos
the star on her knee is a Russian prison tattoo indicative of someone anti-authoritarian
the paper boat has the interpretation “a calm sea does not a gifted sailor make”
the glyphs on her back are from the Japanese: “Fall down 7 times, get up 8”
The 3 dots by her left eye are a common Latin American prison tattoo associated with gang lifestyle – “my crazy life” They can also carry a religious significance as in the Holy Trinity
