I particularly liked the rusting electrical back box around the larger figures head which I gilded. I have a few Greek and Russian icons . I’m interested in their surface texture. These things survive floods, fires, candle burns, even the bullets of Soviet soldiers and bear the scars. But they keep going, often with a little help over the years. In the way the Japanese revere the moss on a stone I like the way that nature very slowly changes a piece. In the same way I’m attracted to wood sculpture left outside. “Pilgrims” was made in 2007 but got a makeover in 2014. The inscription in Russian reads “Pilgrims or wanderers”.
