Orrie Gate

Carved and painted Scottish oak

about 2230mm wide

This double gate near the Boat Club in Lower Largo was commissioned and took about 3 months to carve and paint. There are at least 20 coats of paint and varnish on it. This kind of work has more than a passing affinity with ships figureheads. The scene is a panorama of the Main St with artistic conjecture of what it might have looked like a hundred years ago.

    1. Thank you. These particular gates were £850 per leaf. They were purpose designed and made from seasoned Scottish oak primed and painted in acrylic and oils before being given 6 coats of a special non yellowing two pack varnish. In all about 20 coats of paint and varnish. The ironmongery used was 316 grade stainless steel so in all the spec was very high. They took over 3 months to make from start to finish. Hope that gives you an idea of what was involved
      Kind regards
      Alan
